Terms of use

The terms on which MADLUL is published and may be read and reused.

Last reviewed:

Reading MADLUL

You may read, link to and cite MADLUL, and you may quote from it with attribution. Quoting a passage with a clear credit and, where practical, a link is welcome; the point of a news publication is to be read and discussed.

What you may not do

Do not republish wholesale
You may not copy and republish substantial portions of MADLUL as your own, or republish full articles, without written permission.
Do not strip attribution
Do not remove credits, or present our summary of another organisation’s reporting as your own reporting.
Do not misattribute to a source
Do not present material MADLUL published as though it came from another organisation, or the reverse. Our attribution exists so the reader can tell who said what.
Do not automate against the site abusively
Do not scrape MADLUL at a rate designed to degrade it, and do not attempt to reach the newsroom, which is an access-controlled operations tool and not a public surface.

Material from other organisations

MADLUL reads and attributes material published by other organisations, including news agencies, official bodies and other outlets. That material remains theirs. A listing on our sources page indicates what we read and how we characterise it — it does not indicate a partnership, an endorsement, or a licence to republish in full, and no such relationship exists.

If you hold rights in material and believe MADLUL has used it beyond what is permitted, contact us through the contact page. We treat that as a defect to fix, and we will remove or amend material where we are wrong.

What MADLUL warrants, and what it does not

MADLUL warrants that it applies the editorial standards published on this site, and that every published story carries a visible confidence label of the kind described there.

MADLUL does not warrant that any individual story is complete. News develops; an account that was accurate when published can be added to or superseded. This is why stories carry a developing status and why the confidence label is shown rather than assumed.

In particular, a story labelled "source report" or "unverified" is an account MADLUL is reporting, not a fact MADLUL has established. Reading it as established fact is reading something the label was placed there to prevent.

Availability

MADLUL is offered as it is. We do not promise continuous availability, and we do not warrant that the site will be free of interruption or error. We do try to fix faults as defects rather than allow them to persist.

Liability

To the extent the law allows, MADLUL is not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from use of the site. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including liability for fraud or for anything else the applicable law does not permit a publisher to exclude. Where a limitation would be unenforceable, the remaining terms continue to apply.

Changes

These terms may change, and the review date at the top of the page changes when the text does. Continuing to use the site after a change means the current version applies.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and disputes would be brought before the courts there. This is stated plainly rather than buried: a reader should be able to see, without a lawyer, where a dispute would be resolved.
