Corrections
Every correction we have published, with what changed and why.
How a correction is made
- The original text is preserved. A correction does not overwrite the record of what was published.
- The corrected text is recorded alongside it, so the two can be compared rather than taken on trust.
- The reason is recorded. A change with no stated reason is not published as a correction.
- The entry is public and dated.
What we do not do
We do not silently edit a published story and leave the change unrecorded. Where a story is updated because a situation developed — which is normal and expected — that is a development, not a correction, and it is dated as one. A correction is reserved for the case where we published something that was wrong.
The record
- story
- Earlier
- An earlier version stated that twelve structures were affected.
- Corrected
- The municipal authority figure is twelve; two other sources report eight and five respectively.
- Reason
- The original text presented one figure as settled while sources disagree.
